Most of my patients are quite aged and, inevitably, frail with myriads of potential life-threatening conditions. Every day, after my shift is over, I found myself finger-crossed, hoping that nothing will happen overnight and that I could see them again tomorrow and discharge them soon. Receiving handover reports of patient passed away from the night-cover doctor; not a nice experience, and definitely not the first thing you want to hear in the morning.
To cure; sometimes.
To comfort; always.
Oh well, life goes on.
